The Lost Road of a Failed Gastric Bypass Surgery

By Lana Varner In 1994, I had a RNY surgery. At 350 lbs and 26 years of age, I felt like my life was over, I felt like my husband and my child would be better off without me. I felt like I could not face life at all. Knowing that suicide was totally against my religious beliefs, I had to find a solution and find one fast to get out of this prison called a BODY. I heard from a friend about the RNY surgery and what it had done for her, she went from fat to fabulous what seemed to be overnight to me. Inside, I was desperate to find what she had done, so I called her doctor in Michigan, yes I did no research, I had no idea what it was all about, all I knew is, what she had and the results she had I had to have it, if it caused my life. Long story short…I went to Michigan to have the RNY surgery. I was not scared until they wheeled me into the operating room, it looked like a chop shop, not what I had been a custom to with previous surgeries, but I was down for whatever, I put my life in God’s hands and I went to sleep…you know God watches over children and Fools. I was not prepared for what drastic changes and alterations that had taken place. I had no sound eating advise, my doctor never said stay away from carbs ( what was carbs) , all I knew is that I would be thin in a couple of months ( 7-15 month). I had no support groups, no doctors in my area knowledgeable on the RNY and possible risk and care for RNY patients. I didn’t know I was not supposed to drink sods pop, I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to eat and drink at the same time, all I knew is that I would be thin….now I did hear but I did not exercise, drink plenty of water, take vitamins daily, come for yearly check-up….all I heard is that the weight will come off and you will be thin. I can’t leave out I was told about the dumping but I was not told that it would stop, so as a hard head person, I ate sweets as much as could be tolerated, you know a candy bar here and there, a piece of cake here and there. Two babies later( Dec. 1996 & Jan.1998) I found that my 199 lbs body was getting to tight for my clothes, and I was buying bigger sizes even after the pregnancies, even when there was no baby people thought I was pregnant….Now spinning out of control and wondering what went wrong, and so fast…I knew I had to do something, but what……. I did not know, remember no support groups, limited information, and new procedure in my area ( I was only aware of the surgery being done in Michigan 6-7 hours away – one way). Feeling sluggish and trying to mother my children and my husband I couldn’t get a handle of my tiredness and why I was not feeling like myself. Every meal after the pregnancy was a meal of convenience meaning something that won’t make me sick, and something that didn’t require me to be on my feet for a long time, so I opted for fast food, I ate pizza at least 3-4 out of 7 days, hey it’s the only food I can feed a family of 8 for under $16.00 for 2 extra large one topping pizza’s. Now the scale is tipping 250 lbs and every month I see a pound creep on here and there but, hey… I think I got this….then I wake up from this dream with severe anemia, and 181 B-12 level, mild memory loss, and all the old symptoms of Lupus (soreness, stiffness, and joint pain). 10 years wiser, I began to take my life back by using proper supplementation, and regular doctor visits, but why is the weight not coming off, I’m logging my food, I’m exercising, I even got a personal trainer, and still something was wrong, and I became tired of going to the gym 2-3 times a day for 1.5-2 hour a time. I began to reach out for help, even though I was shame when people found out I had a RNY several years ago. I got sick of people asking me what happen, your still fat, as if I couldn’t see that every time I ran by the mirror…you know…… I was a diva from the shoulders up( I was always told I had a pretty face), so I thought,…… but what about the rest of me. I was fooling myself, and every time I went up a flight of stairs, I knew that rest of me needed the attention that I gave my face. After much soul searching and research, I decided to have the lap band around my RNY pouch. I knew it was a fairly new procedure but here I go again, that’s what my husband said, then I would reply but I’m not that same old Lana, I’m 10 years wiser and I see the fault in me, and my surgeon which cause me not be successful in 1994, so don’t put me on the HISTORY channel cause I got a new preview, staring the sensible Lana who loves herself, and who has learned that you don’t get nothing in life for free. You pay for everything you get and everything you get you pay for( with regards to the WLS Surgery). AND HERE I AM BANDED AND LOVIN IT! Mother of six who refuses to give up on her dream of being thin. I share my joy and sorrow of my gastric bypass and weight loss surgery adventures. Thoughts on the Road to Emmaus

By Staci Stallings . . . their eyes were opened, and they recognized him . . . Luke 24:31 Two friendspeople who had known Jesus, who had walked with Him, talked with Him, and eaten meals with Him every day for three years didnt recognize Him even on a long walk down a dusty road. Have you ever wondered about that? I have. How could that possibly be? The reality is: the disciples were looking at a man who happened to be traveling along the same road they were. They did not see Jesus because they did not expect to see Jesus. How many times on our walks through life do we not see Jesus? How many times do we talk with a co-worker or a parent or a child or a friend or even someone we have never met before and fail to recognize that this person holds a precious piece of Our Lord and Savior within them? And because we dont recognize Jesus in them, we treat them not as we would treat Jesus, but as just our friend, or just our co-worker, or just our child. It must make Jesus terribly sad that for all our flowery words and pious presumptions, we still do not recognize Him in each other. Moreover, consider this: Is it possible that in religious settings, we look at one another, and instead of seeing Jesus, we see only the other persons religion, their label? And because we dont see Jesus, we say, “You are so obviously not spirituallook, you stand when we are kneeling, or you use crucifixes instead of picturing the risen Lord, or you pray to statues and icons instead of to the living God, or you dont have our label, and so, obviously God is not going to let you into His kingdom.” Thus, we spend so much time questioning each other’s commitment to Jesus and so much time fighting over man-made rules and laws that we forget about those people who are lost and hurting. We forget to do God’s real workministering to those who are hungry for His word and His truths to come into their lives. Instead, having been seduced by Satan to believe that God’s kingdom is some kind of exclusive club, we spend our time fighting with each other about who is going to get in and completely fail to see that the world is going to hell around us. However, we have the choice to open our eyes and commit ourselves to do Gods work here on earth. Rather than judging, we can reach out to the lost soulsnot by telling them about God’s love, but by showing them how great Gods love is. Witnessing by how we live and how we treat one another, so that they look to us and say, “I want to be like them. I want what they have.” And then maybe God’s grace will touch their hearts and make them ask, “How do I get it? What do they have that I don’t?” But living this way hinges on whether or not we see Jesus in every single person we happen to walk down a path with in our day-to-day lives. When we look at another person, do we see someone who is worthy of Christs message? Someone whom God loves beyond measure? Do we see Jesus Himselflost, hurting, and alone? Or do we see just another person. I tell you truly, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me. Matthew 25:45 Think about the inherent admonition in these words. Our goal should be to treat others not as we want to be treated but as we would treat Jesus Himself. That is God’s real work. We are commissioned to spend our time ministering to Gods childrenrather than trying to improve our status in His eyes or to impress one another. By opening our eyes to Jesus presence in the those around us, we will come to see His spirit manifesting in our own lives. And thus we can say as the disciples did at the conclusion to the Emmaus story, Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road . . .Luke 24:32 Open your eyes. This opportunity is with you right now. Dont waste this chance to get to know the Jesus who is in your midst at this very moment. Staci Stallings Need more inspiration? A Time before Clock and Watches – A Series (part 1)

By Thomas G. Young How Time Was Measured Before the Clock How many times have you wondered, What time is it? and turned to your wrist only to find you forgot to put on your watch. We have become so programmed to know what time it is and schedule our lives around it that it is second nature to bend your arm, turn your wrist and get the answer. It has not always been so easy, or even necessary as you will see by looking back to a time before clocks and watches. Like Night and Day The precision with which we measure time today is light years away from how it was done, not so long ago. Time was once measured completely by the universe around us and still is in a sense when you understand the science and physics behind the measurement of time and what makes a clock work (more on this in part 2). What earlier civilizations knew and relied upon each day was that the sun came up and went down and that block of time became a day. To measure greater expanses, the moon and its reliable cycles were also observed. The moon was used to measure the time period which came to be known as a month more technically a lunar month of 28 days or the time it took for the moon to go from new to crescent to full and new again. Ancient Civilization Even more than just observing the moon, sun, and planets, there are artifacts that show us that time was measured a bit more precisely. Early calendars and clocks were found in what is now Iraq, once the dwelling place of the ancient Sumerians, and consisted of a calendar that was divided into 30 day segments according to the cycle of the moon. It was then divided into 12 sections which corresponded to 2 hours of todays time. Further, the calendar was sectioned off into 30 more parts equivalent to 4 modern-day minutes. Stonehenge is located in England and was built more than 4,000 years ago. Not much is completely understood about this mysterious structure, but the way it is positioned has scientists believing that it somehow was used to record seasons and the phenomenon of lunar eclipses and the like. Sundials The Sumerian culture passed away without the information about their timekeeping being discovered until more modern times. The next phase of more precise time measurement was used by the Egyptians. They created the Obelisk around 3500 BC which looked like todays Washington Monument, well-known to visitors of the Nations capital. This tall, tapered monument would cast shadows throughout the day, but was primitive still in how closely the time periods could be measured. It mostly reflected a change between morning and afternoon, and how the days would get shorter or longer with the seasons. The sundial on the other hand was first used about 1500 BC and was a much smaller and more portable timekeeping device. It was divided into 10 equal parts with two additional segments representing twilight and dawn. The sundial itself then emerged from a horizontal plate to a bowl shape with pointer and inscribed lines to mark off the hours. It is believed that by 30 BC there were more than 13 different styles of sundials used in the evolving societies of Asia Minor, Italy, and Greece. When one thinks about the precision of a finely crafted Swiss timepiece it is hard to imagine a time when time was so ambiguous. Could society function without time measurements to the very minute? Perhaps in another millennium society will wonder how we functioned living in just one time. This is the first of a series of articles on the evolution of time measuring and how timepieces come to become what they are today. Thomas Young is a watch collector. Commercial Interest Only Loan

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Eric_Morris]Eric Morris Commercial interest only loans are commercial loans that give you an option to pay just the interest on the loan for some initial period of repayment, say 5 years or 10 years. It also gives the option of paying the interest plus as much principal as you want. The main advantage of this loan is the lower interest you pay each month even though the interest rate is the same. They also help to considerably control the monthly payment and cash flow. After the initial period, the repayments are raised to fully amortized levels. These loans allow for a large principle prepayment if desired. Interest only loans can be fixed-rate mortgages or adjustable-rate mortgages. Commercial interest only loans are meant for businessmen and investors. They are provided on the basis of securities like offices, shops, businesses, warehouses, motels and hotels, residential investment properties and other commercial, retail or industrial properties. The loans are provided to individuals, trustees or corporations. For private companies, the directors of the companies should act as guarantors. Commercial interest only loans generally provided are up to 70% of RBFs valuation of the property/ properties that are kept as security. The minimum loan amount is $50,000. Interest only loans can also be secured by way of second mortgages. There are many factors to be considered when applying commercial interest only loans, especially one that is based on adjustable mortgage rate. Even though they are an attractive option, they involve a fair amount of risk. With increasing real estate prices, interest-only loans are becoming a preferred option for many. There are also many lending companies that are giving attractive options on interest-only loans. Information about interest-only loans is available on the Internet. They also contain easy-to-use interest only calculators that give you the repayments you will have to make on an interest only loan. How Many Calories Can I Eat To Lose Weight?

By C Morris On almost every diet, you may be asking yourself this simple question. “Exactly how many calories can I eat to lose weight?” Well, the simple answer is to eat fewer calories than your body burns on a regular basis. There is one EASY way that you can accomplish this without going hungry. It’s called the Negative Calorie Diet. There are over 100 foods out there that you can eat which burn more calories digesting them than you take in by eating them. If you can simply incorporate these foods into your daily diet, then you should soon start to notice improvements to your waistline. Now, these aren’t magical foods that instantly make you skinny, but over time they will help out tremendously by keeping you fuller throughout the day. This way you won’t crave the quick, fatty snack foods that caused the problem in the first place. The Negative Calorie Diet came about from the idea that your body burns calories by digesting certain foods. Therefore, your body is actually burning fat just by digesting the food. For example, a stalk of broccoli contains about 25 calories. In order for you body to digest it, it must burn that amount of calories, plus some. That’s how you get the “Negative Calorie” effect. This provides a very simple answer to that earlier question of “How Many Calories Can I Eat To Lose Weight?” The answer is “as many as you want”, as long as you follow the guidelines of the Negative Calorie Diet. Another benefit to this diet is that it helps speed up your metabolism by eating healthier meals. Obviously, people with a higher metabolism will benefit more than people with slower metabolism, but that’s no reason to avoid the Negative Calorie Diet. All you have to do in order to get superior results no matter what your body type is to combine this diet with some sort of exercise routine. Walking, or any other cardiovascular workout three days a week for 30 minutes each time will help tremendously. Now, you’re probably wanting to find out what these “Negative Calorie Foods” are, right? Let’s bring up your earlier question, too: “How many calories can I eat to lose weight?”. I’ve listed a few of the foods that are in this group, but there are still many more. These foods are: asparagus, beet, broccoli, green cabbage, carrot, cauliflower, celery root, celery, hot chili peppers, cucumber, dandelion, endive, garden cress, garlic, green beans, zucchini, apple, cranberries, grapefruit, lemon, mango, orange, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, tangerine, lamb’s lettuce, lettuce, onion, papaya, radishes, spinach, and turnips. Just try a few of the items on this list and you’ll see how you can easily follow this diet and lose weight. People that are more overweight may even see quicker results, as there body naturally burns more calories than thinner people, while sedentary. Giving Your Hair The Best Conditioning

By James Monahan Conditioners helps you manage things well, especially your hair. Conditioner is a substance that makes things easily manageable. Bread dough’s for example, conditioners make it easy to manage bread dough, which is otherwise hard without it. The best use for conditioners, on the other hand, is for the hair. Hair conditioners are heaven sent for people with frizzy and dry hair. It helps make hair easily manageable and easy to style. It also lessens the pain of detangling the dry hair when frizzyness attacks. Conditioning the hair also eliminates the problem when it becomes nest-like after shampoo. Here are a few tips on how to use hair conditioners to the fullest. First, is clean your hair with shampoo. In shampooing, avoid bring up your hair and rubbing it with the shampoo.
